INTERNSHIPS

Description:
The Modern Art Museum of Fort Worth Education Internship program provides students with practical work experience in museum education and gives a sense of administrative and creative responsibilities involved in education programming. Internships acquaint students with the Museum’s collection and special exhibitions. They provide an opportunity to work with people of all ages in various programs. Under the guidance of education staff, interns assist with routine administrative tasks from clerical to research as well as assist artists who lead the modern programs with hands on art activities in the studio and galleries. Internships are invaluable experiences due to the level of involvement and responsibility entrusted to each intern.

Positions:
The Education department offers a paid internship for graduate art and art history students during the fall and spring semesters. Currently there is an opening for the spring 2009 internship that begins in January 2009. This education internship pays $10 an hour with a total of 125 hours throughout the semester. A fixed schedule that works for both the intern and the Modern’s education department can be discussed within the interview process. Responsibilities vary according to the museum’s programming schedule.

Qualifications:
Positions are open to art and art history students currently enrolled in a university masters program. Acceptance is determined by academic achievements, experiences, interests, and future career goals.

Volunteer Internship Opportunities at the Modern

Public Relations Photography Internship

Applicant should be a junior or senior photography major that is capable in various environments with a camera and is proficient in Photoshop CS2 (RAW digital images and transparency scans) and possibly Adobe Illustrator. Please send with your resume 5 to 10 images; submitted electronically or with a self-addressed envelope. The photography intern will be assisting the department in photographing various events and subjects for both promotions and print, assisting the graphic designer in preparing images for publication, and participating on the Modern’s Blog as an author.

Public Relations Writing Internship

Applicant should be a junior, senior, or graduate student majoring in art history or public relations with an interest in modern and contemporary art. Please send with your resume an art-related writing sample. The writing intern will research and prepare entries for the Modern Blog.

Additional Internship Responsibilities:

Assist PR Manager on projects as assigned, including but not limited to:

Managing News Clippings

• Receiving and counting packages from the Clipping Bureau
• Maintain a Clipping Center for Museum Staff to use
• Provide summary to staff of news online
• Maintain kitchen bulletin board notices

• Find costs, circulations, demographics, income level for demographics

• Gather information and put it in manuscript format for weekly and monthly listings

Fulfill admission ticket donation requests to organizations.

Candidates should be available to work 10 to 15 hours per week. PR internships are unpaid.
